You are currently required to register by providing your real name and a valid e-mail address in order to post comments to our site.

Beginning January 1, 2007, we may begin requesting further information from you such as your age and gender in order to help us better meet your needs and create a new model for news delivery in the 21st century. This policy will be updated to reflect these possible changes.

You may contact the ColumbiaMissourian.com at any time and ask to have your registration information deleted. Once this information is deleted, you will no longer be able to post comments on the site. However, you may re-register at any time.

ColumbiaMissourian.com will not sell or lend personally-identifiable data to third parties. In order to better understand and serve our users, ColumbiaMissourian.com may compile and analyze this data on an aggregated basis. We may share this aggregated data with our advertisers to help them better be able to target information to you. Our academic partners at the University of Missouri School of Journalism may also analyze this data on an aggregated basis for academic research purposes.

What information do our web servers automatically collect from you, and how will we use this information?

Our Web servers automatically collect limited information such as your IP address, the type of browser you use, the operating system you are running, and your connection speed. We also use cookies to track which pages of our site you visit. This information is does not tell us who you are or contain personally-identifiable information. We use this information to make our site function well for as many users as possible. Cookies allow you to post comments on the site without having to reenter your log-in information each time. If you wish, you can set your browser to decline cookies, and you can delete them from your computer, but you would have to log-in each time in order to post a comment.

This information may be compiled at the aggregate level and shared with our advertisers and our academic partners at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Will the information we collect from you be protected from loss, misuse or alteration?

This information will be stored and protected by physical and electronic security procedures in order to prevent loss, misuse, or alteration. Our security procedures have been audited and approved by the University of Missouri’s Information Access and Technology Services Department. However, you should know that while we will utilize the strongest procedures we are capable of, no security system is impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the security of our database, nor can we guarantee that the information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.
