So far, CEO Tim Cook and his Apple associates have only referred to the new device as the iPad (not very original, but whatever). In it’s usual top-secret fashion, the tech titan released its much anticipated iPad today in front of a crowd of frenzied journalists, tech bloggers and the business community.

Start saving now; according to Mashable, the device will cost $499 and comes out March 16.

CNN Money liveblogged the event. According to the blogs minute-by-minute updates, the iPad 3 includes HD 1080p video quality, Retina display, quad-four processor, 5-megapixel iSight camera and voice dictation, which is somewhat like Siri, according to Michael Gorman at Engadget. The voice dictation caters to speakers of French, German, Japanese, US English, Australian and British languages (Well, the last three aren’t separate languages, but those thick regional accents must confuse Siri).

The new device is also slightly heavier than the iPad 2; according to GeekSugar, the device weights 1.4 pounds.

Worried your carrier won’t provide iPad ervice? AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Bell and Telus will provide the next-generation wireless service, 4G LTE.

An array of apps will complement the iPad’s release, including an iPhoto app, which Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, says “is amazing.” Another app, iMovie, lets users create their own movie trailers.

Another improvement from the iPad 2 is better battery life according to Chris Taylor, deputy editor at Mashable.

At the event, Cook also announced the release of a new version of Apple TV, according to Fox News. The new version allows users to stream photos from iPhones into the box, as well as watch TV shows the day after they air.
