Tracing Columbia’s history of black education

Students struggle to the chalkboard

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education that declared public school segregation unconstitutional. Since then, students and activists have blazed the trail to ensure black students have a place in front of the chalkboard alongside white students. Today, Columbia recognizes these educational pioneers.
